Orange Door Campaign

The Spring Campaign Raised Almost $8,000

This year marked ten years of HomeBridge working with The Home Depot in an effort to change the lives of vulnerable youth and battle youth homelessness.  In that decade the Orange Door Campaign has raised well over $100,000 to support therapeutic and life-skill building programs for the young people who live in the HomeBridge Community.  More than 1,000 young people from all over Nova Scotia have had the opportunity to grow, learn and have new experiences thanks to The Home Depot Canada Foundation and the team at the Dartmouth Crossing location.  Because of their fundraising efforts, we’ve taken young people places they’ve never been, let them try things they’ve only imagined, and helped them discover talents and strengths they had no idea they had.

The team at the Dartmouth Crossing location of The Home Depot that we have been working with has always gone above and beyond for this campaign.  We continue to be impressed with their dedication and commitment to battling youth homelessness and how creative they are with their fundraising efforts. Their Spring campaign was another huge success, raising nearly $8,000.  This money meant that the summer was filled with exciting experiences.  The young people learned vocational skills while building cedar stand up paddleboards.  They gained entrepreneurial and customer service experience while running their own farmers market.  They learned to stay in the moment and problem solve while navigating the open water in kayaks. And just as importantly, they had a great deal of fun and had many new experiences.  This is all an important part of helping them heal from their past trauma and move from the survival mode they have been trapped in for far too long and towards a life where they can truly thrive and become their best self.  Thank you to our friends at The Home Depot and their generous customers for making this possible for them.

The slogan for the Orange Door Project is “one door can change everything”, and it is absolutely true. Customers are invited to purchase an Orange Door for $2, $5, or $10 at the checkout.  A few dollars may not seem like much, but the impact this campaign has had on vulnerable youth is priceless.
